Legendary South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis on Thursday made an early prediction as to who will walk away with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 trophy.

The 2023 edition of the IPL will start from Friday with defending champions Gujarat Titans taking on Chennai Super Kings, the four-time champions. "It is always difficult to predict which teams are going to be in the IPL playoff because the teams are so evenly matched.

But I have got a feeling this year that it is going to be between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, with Delhi Capitals taking the cup," said Kallis on Star Sports.

Delhi Capitals have never won the IPL trophy. Their best finish was in IPL 2020, where they finished as the runners-up after losing to Mumbai Indians in the final.

Last year's finalists, Rajasthan Royals pulled off a memorable run chase against defending champions Gujarat Titans, handing them their second straight loss at home. It was their skipper Sanju Samson who led from the front, scoring a 32-ball 60 to lay the foundation of a tricky run-chase that was finished by Shimron Hetmyer. Lavishing praise upon Samson, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh compared him to none other than the great MS Dhoni while advocating his case for regular game-time in the Indian national cricket team.
The IPL has always had quality, but what took it to another level was the successful hosting of the league in South Africa in 2009, and the interest it generated in a foreign country, feels former India coach Ravi Shastri. The second edition of the Indian Premier League had been moved to South Africa as its dates clashed with the general elections in the country. The IPL was started on this day 15 years ago. Shastri, who was part of the league's governing council then, reminisced about the tournament's early days.
Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya on Sunday achieved a significant milestone by scoring 2000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pandya achieved the feat during a match against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Pandya achieved this feat as he smashed the crucial runs in the eighth over, smashing a carrom ball from off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin over mid-off/extra cover. Pandya, who started the game just 16 runs shy of the 2000-run mark, has now joined an elite group of IPL players who have scored 2000 runs and taken 50 wickets. The hard-hitting all-rounder has taken 50 wickets in the IPL over a nine-year and 100-match career.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri was all praise for Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Tilak Varma and said that he would be very surprised if the youngster did not play for the country in the next six to eight months. On Tuesday, Tilak scored a crucial 41 off 29 balls and shared a 68-run stand with skipper Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians registered their first win of the season after beating the Delhi Capitals. Shastri was impressed with Tilak's perforamances in IPL 2023, saying that the 20-year-old looks like a "India player already".
Rinku Singh became a household name in Indian cricket after his heroics for Kolkata Knight Riders against Gujarat Titans in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 game. With 7-down Kolkata Knight Riders needing 29 runs off the last over against the defending champions, even the di-hard KKR fan would not have been hopeful. While Rashid Khan's magical hat-trick had almost sealed the game for the Hardik Pandya-led GT, winning seemed to be just a formality for the side. Yash Dayal was handed the ball in the final over and the first delivery went for a single. With 28 needed off 5 balls, GT would have thought that the game was in their pocket, however, KKR's Rinku Singh had some other idea. Rinku hit five consecutive sixes and sealed a nearly impossible victory for Nitish Rana and company.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri feels Rohit Sharma's return to form augurs well for five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League. MI defeated Delhi Capitals by six wickets here on Tuesday night to register their first win in three games. DC scored 172, which was chased down by MI on the last ball, with skipper Rohit playing a captain's knock of 65, his first fifty after 24 innings.
