Newcastle United are ‘definitely going to sign a striker’ in what remains of the current transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones. The Magpies have successfully strengthened their defensive options this summer but have so far been frustrated in their attempts to add some additional firepower to their forward line.
Last season, Callum Wilson was Newcastle’s top scorer in the Premier League with eight goals despite starting just 16 games due to injury problems.
And January signing Chris Wood only managed to find the back of the net on two occasions in his 17 top-flight outings for the North East outfit following his £25 million switch from Burnley.
Those uninspiring tallies saw Newcastle attempt to bring in Hugo Ekitike from Stade Reims before the youngster opted to join Paris Saint-Germain instead, forcing Eddie Howe to move onto alternative targets.
