Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has suggested Kalvin Phillips should leave Manchester City on loan amid growing uncertainty over the midfielder's future.

Phillips was hoping to get his chance at City after seeing Rodri sent off against Nottingham Forest, but the former Leeds United man only started in the Carabao Cup defeat at Newcastle.

Pep Guardiola preferred to start both Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva in the deeper role, signalling a lack of trust in last summer's £42million arrival.

Speaking while away on international duty with England, Phillips suggested he was considering his future at City amid a lack of minutes.
