Newcastle United ‘have enquired’ about signing Leeds United winger Jack Harrison but are unwilling to pay over the odds as they look to strike a deal at St James’ Park, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs. Eddie Howe is preparing for his first full season at the helm, having been appointed as the Magpies’ head coach last November, and it seems Harrison is firmly on his radar.
Newcastle have strengthened their interest in Harrison by testing the waters with an £18million bid. However, the opening gambit did not go down well in Yorkshire as Leeds adjudged it to be a derisory offer and rejected the proposal out of hand.
It is understood that Harrison’s current employers would only entertain sanctioning his departure if a bid worth in the region of £35million is tabled.
Although the winger appeared to raise suspicions that a move away from Elland Road could be on the cards by claiming ‘we’ll see what happens’ after being questioned over his future, Leeds boss Jesse Marsch has insisted that Harrison is a ‘big part’ of his plans.
