Motherwell to face Morton for EIGHTH time in 13 years as fans groan at Scottish Cup draw

Motherwell have been paired with familiar foes Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup – with the sides set to meet for the EIGHTH time in 13 years.

The Steelmen booked their place in the fifth round of the competition on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Alloa Athletic, and they have been rewarded with a trip to Cappielow to face Dougie Imrie’s men next month.

It is a familiar pairing that has had both sets of fans groaning about the draw after it was made last night. Reacting to the draw, one Motherwell fan on X posted: "Death, taxes and Morton in the cup." And another said: "I will take it but I swear we always play them at least once a season." A Morton supporter said: "Of course we have, same draw every year.

At least it's at home." While another user on X quipped: "I swear Morton and Motherwell is an annual cup tie." The sides were paired together in the fourth round of the competition as recently as 2022, when Motherwell required extra-time to edge past their rivals 2-1.
