Jermain Defoe reckons something special is brewing with Michael Beale back at Rangers. The former England striker spent three years working alongside Steven Gerrard’s former sidekick at Ibrox.
And he came away from his spell in Glasgow deeply impressed by his fellow Londoner’s “obsessive” approach to coaching. Beale is putting those qualities to good use now that he’s back at Ibrox having been headhunted to replace Gio van Bronckhorst midway through the season.
He’s got off to an encouraging start, winning 17 or his 19 games in charge so far but Premier League legend Defoe believes it will be next season before the Gers faithful see the full extent of the new gaffer’s impact.
Defoe said: “The job Mick’s done so far has been really good. He’s a top coach but he’s the boss now. Mick has been coaching for about 20 years all over the world.
