Mason Mount can heed Christian Eriksen's advice amid Manchester United midfield concerns

Mason Mount has come in for plenty of early criticism this week but the Manchester United midfielder can lean on Christian Eriksen as he looks to find a balance with Bruno Fernandes.

Mount was given his competitive debut on Monday evening as United beat Wolves 1-0 at Old Trafford. But Erik ten Hag's men were outplayed by the away side, with midfield gaps a particular point of concern.

Casemiro was often left isolated and unable to match the powerful running of Matheus Cunha and Matheus Nunes. Much of the blame was laid on Mount, with critics suggesting he and Fernandes were far too attacking, creating an unbalanced team. "That can’t be allowed to happen, no team can leave a defensive midfielder on their own, especially one that isn’t mobile like Casemiro as much as he reads the game well." Such concerns sound very similar to those that surrounded Eriksen's first few months at United last season.

The Danish international had spent much of his career as a no.10 and, having been 30 at the time, was accused of lacking the athleticism to play a box-to-box role.
