James Garner was delighted to sign a new contract at Manchester United last summer. Garner signed a deal until 2024 with the option of an additional year, which was recognition of his potential after a successful loan spell in the Championship. “Signing this new contract shows the faith that the club has in me, it gives me extra motivation and means so much for me and my family," Garner said. “I want to be a big player for this club one day, that is my ultimate aim and I’ll be working every day to make that happen.” The midfielder agreed to re-sign for Forest on loan after signing that extension and it seemed like a logical move.

Garner made 49 appearances last season and he was instrumental in Forest securing promotion to the Premier League. He was excellent in midfield under Steve Cooper's leadership and he consistently performed against professionals much his senior.

Garner had made an effortless transition from academy football to the physicality of the Championship and his potential was obvious.
