Manchester United target Jan Oblak is ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world’ and a move to Old Trafford would be exciting, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke. Despite spending more than £200million on reinforcements during the summer transfer window, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag will be presented with another opportunity to bolster his squad at the turn of the year.

According to French media outlet Jeunes Footeux, Manchester United have identified Atletico Madrid shot-stopper Oblak as a priority target and are willing to offer a contract worth close to £16million-per-season.

The report suggests ten Hag has not been convinced by David De Gea during the early days of his reign, having taken charge during the summer, but is facing competition from Paris Saint-Germain for the 50-cap Slovenia international’s signature.

There is uncertainty over Oblak’s future at the Wanda Metropolitano as his £253,000-per-week contract is due to expire next summer, meaning January may be the final opportunity for his current employers to cash-in.
