Manchester United star David De Gea’s Old Trafford future is still up in the air because there has ‘always been concerns’ over his ability on the ball, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke. The goalkeeper has been on the Red Devils’ books since completing an £18.9million move from Atletico Madrid 11 years ago, but there are doubts over whether he will remain at the club beyond the end of the season.
Although De Gea’s £375,000-per-week contract is due to expire next summer, Manchester United have the option of extending the agreement by 12 months.
But there are doubts over whether the Red Devils will exercise their right to keep the Spaniard, who has chalked up 498 appearances for the club, beyond the campaign’s climax.
That is because the Telegraph have revealed Manchester United are weighing up whether they should hold onto De Gea. The report suggests the 20-time English top flight champions’ wage bill reached a Premier League record £384million for last season and their financial situation will dictate how they act over the 31-year-old.
