George Elokobi would love to reward Maidstone fans’ patience with a midweek home victory. The Stones’ winless run in the National League reached 18 games on Saturday when they lost 2-1 to Woking.

A committed performance proved in vain as Elokobi’s men conceded in the sixth minute of added time. The pursuit of a first victory since the end of November continues against Bromley at the Gallagher tonight.

Relegation is inevitable, with United 14 points from safety going into their final seven games. But they’ll continue to give everything in the hope of bringing some cheer to long-suffering fans.

New boss Elokobi said: “Our supporters are some of the best in this country that I’ve seen in my experience in football and they understand.
