Elf Marc VDS’ Sam Lowes is on his way to Japan in a bid to return to the Moto2 grid following his fractured shoulder. Having initially wanted to ride at Motorland Aragon last weekend, Lowes sat out of the Spanish clash as his rehabilitation on his dislocated and fractured shoulder, sustained during FP1 at Silverstone, continued.

But with Monday’s doctors checks looking positive, and a successful weekend spent at a local kart track close to his second home in San Marino, Lowes was soon booked on a flight to Motegi. “Finally, tomorrow I will go to Japan,” Lowes confirmed via social media on Monday. “Last checks were positive, lots of hard work and can’t wait to get back going.“Expecting first couple rounds to be hard as we build back up, but excited for it. “It’s been difficult but we’re improving,” he elaborated. “I’ve been working hard a lot with the physio, a lot in the cryo spa, a lot in the oxygen chambers.

Just trying to get the shoulder moving again, trying to get the flexibility. “As much as the pain, is also the movement.” Lowes said of the issued faced over the past two months. “Working towards getting back on the Kalex and back with my team.” The 32-year-old was back on two wheels over the weekend as he tested his recovery at Jeepers karting track in Cattolica. “Always a great track for training on,” Lowes explained. “Quite physical and demanding. [I’ve been] riding the Ohvales there.
