Linlithgow Academy are going for a second straight Scottish Cup title as their S3 boys aim to replicate the success of the seniors last season.

The school’s under-15 side will take on St John’s High School from Dundee in the showpiece event at East Fife’s Bayview Stadium on June 9.

Delighted coach Gary MacBrayne said: “It really speaks volumes about the school and the football programme that two completely separate teams and age groups can reach the cup final in consecutive years.

It’s an amazing achievement to have continuation of that success.” He added: “It is a really talented group of players that includes a few who are playing pro youth and the school and local community have really rallied around them.

If, as seems highly likely, this was farewell it was low key in nature. Ange Postecoglou refused to directly address the rising sense he will be named as Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager in the lead up to the Scottish Cup final. Celtic defeated Inverness Caledonian Thistle to ensure season two of Postecoglou’s reign delivered a domestic treble. Celtic remain Scottish football’s dominant force, with Postecoglou’s return a total of five trophies from a possible half dozen. He will argue he has done his bit. Celtic were in a state of disrepair when Postecoglou arrived.
