Stephen Robinson was delighted to see St Mirren’s Queens Gambit pay off as new recruit Kwon Hyeok-kyu made his first appearance for the club.
The Buddies boss was put through the ringer as his side struggled to break down Marvin Bartley’s Queen of the South side. But they kept at it and their patience was rewarded when Alex Gogic bulleted home a 71st-minute header to book their spot in the fifth round.
Saints created a series of chances with Scott Tanser denied a second-half stunner when his 20-yarder hit the bar. But Buddies boss Robbo believed the winning margin should have been more, claiming Greg Kiltie was hard done by over a pair of goals ruled out for offside.
Robinson said: “It’s a credit to Queen of the South who were organised, as we expected, but we dominated the whole game. The two goals which were offside, the second one was definitely onside.
