Kennington return to FA Cup action, buoyed by successive clean sheets. Since losing 5-1 to relegated Corinthian in their Southern Counties East opener, Ton have tightened up at the back.
They beat Glebe 1-0 in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round and last weekend claimed a creditable 0-0 league draw at Punjab United.
Next up is a trip to Cobham in the Preliminary Round today (3pm). Manager Dan Scorer said: “After a disappointing opening day, it’s been an impressive turnaround with back-to-back clean sheets. “You can’t underestimate what a good point that was at Punjab on Saturday. “They finished last season really well, and won the Kent Senior Trophy, and I expect them to be up there this season. “We’re back in the FA Cup this weekend and as long as we go out and perform and continue to defend as well as we have in the last two games, then we stand a fighting chance.” Kennington are still relative newcomers to the FA Cup but they’ve had some fun in the competition.
Two years ago they reached the First Qualifying Round, losing 3-0 at home to Isthmian Premier club Carshalton. Scorer said: “It’s only the second time we’ve been at the Preliminary Round stage and only the fourth year we’ve been in the FA Cup. “We went out at the first stage in our first year and followed that up with a half-decent run when we ended up playing Carshalton. “Last year we went out to Walton & Hersham after a replay, which wasn’t bad when you look at how well they did in winning promotion. “We’re looking forward to Saturday and feeling confident we can get a result. “If we can get to the First Qualifying Round and draw a decent Step 3 side like Carshalton then it makes for a good game either way. “Or you go down the route of playing another Step 5
