"Just A Matter Of Time": Ex-India Star's Verdict On Rishabh Pant's Form After Return

Former India batter Navjot Singh Sidhu is confident about Rishabh Pant regaining his mojo, having his return after a 15-month-long absence following his brutal car accident.

Pant returned to action on Saturday during Delhi Capitals (DC)'s opening match of IPL 2024 against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The 26-year-old received a standing ovation from the crowd at the newly-inaugrated Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali.

While Pant scored just 18 runs off 13 deliveries, Sidhu is hopeful that it is just a matter of time until he is back to his very best. "He is leading Delhi Capitals and running between the wickets and playing good cricket.

Just a matter of time before he will regain his form. But, importantly, Indian cricket has got its fine gem back, and we should be thankful to God on his return to the field," Sidhu said on Star  Sports.

Delhi Capitals have suffered a major setback as their Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has returned home to undergo treatment for a tear in his right hamstring. Marsh, who is set to be named Australia's captain for the T20 World Cup in June, was recalled after consultations with the Delhi team management, according to ESPNCricinfo. However, a final call on his availability for the remainder of the season is yet to be taken. Marsh last played against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 3 and missed their previous two outings against Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants.
Former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop is one of the finest cricket commentators in the world. Currently part of the commentary team for the Indian Premier League (IPL), Bishop, however, was recently accused of comparing two Indian wicketkeepers -- Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson. A user on social media claimed Bishop saying on air that Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Pant is a better version of his Rajasthan Royals (RR) counterpart Samson. "Ian Bishop on live commentary: 'Anything Samson can do, Rishabh Pant can do it better.' He's spitting facts," a post on X claimed.
The T20 World Cup 2024 is just round the corner and questions still remain over the wicket-keeper choices for the Indian cricket team. While KL Rahul is almost certain to find a place in the 15-member squad, there are several options when it comes to the second choice for the role. Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are all prominent options for the team management with youngster Jitesh Sharma impressing in the past year as well. However, legendary Australia cricketer Adam Gilchrist believes that there is one clear choice for the selectors while selecting the T20 World Cup squad.
Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant is one offence away from being banned for a game in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pant has already copped two fines for a slow over rate in the season and a third infringement would've seen him being banned for a game. The 26-year-old dodged a massive bullet on Friday during the game against the Lucknow Super Giants. DC were behind on the over rate until the 16th over but made up for the lost overs.
Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant was involved in an argument with the on-field umpire over a DRS call during the IPL 2024 game against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday. The incident happened after an apparent confusion over Pant's decision to take a review. During the 4th over of the LSG innings, Ishant Sharma bowled a delivery down the leg side against Devdutt Padikkal. The umpire signalled for a wide but Pant quickly went for a review. Replay showed that it was a wide but Pant was not happy and commentators thought he was insisting that he did not ask for a review.
The Indian cricket team selectors are expected to pick the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 and question marks still remain over the wicket-keeper's position. While KL Rahul seems to be a natural option, both experts and fans are split over the inclusion of Rishabh Pant. Pant, who returned to cricket in IPL 2024 after his near-fatal car accident in 2022, has scored 153 runs in 5 matches till now. However, he faces tough competition from Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Jitesh Sharma. A report on Cricbuzz claims that Pant is in line for a recall to the national side and considering his reputation as a bonafide match-winner, the selectors may end up going for him as a solid option along with Rahul.
