England pacer Jofra Archer is set to miss the Indian Premier League 2024 as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) looks to manage his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup according to ESPNcricinfo.

Archer has missed professional cricket for the majority of the year due to a reoccurring elbow injury and he made his last appearance in professional cricket in May 2023.

He travelled as a reserve player with the England team but stayed for a week in India as continued to suffer from the pain. He was released by the five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians ahead of the auction.

In IPL 2023, fans expected Archer to be at his very best and guide MI to their sixth trophy, but injuries interrupted his season and affected his performances.

The IPL auction 2024 emerged as an intense battleground where Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) engaged fervently to add Mitchell Starc's firepower to their squad. While there was no doubt that Starc, especially after the ODI World Cup success in India, would be a highly sought-after player in the auction, his acquisition by the KKR for a record-breaking sum of Rs 24.75 crore raised the eyebrows of many. Breaking it down, if KKR play a maximum 17 matches in IPL 2024, Mitchell Starc's acquisition would amount to over Rs 6 lakh per ball bowled or Rs 1.45 crore per match. This prompts the question: Does this investment truly justify the expense?
The IPL 2024 mini-auction in Dubai threw up some staggering numbers, with Australia's World Cup winners clinching the most lucrative contracts in the history of the tournament.
Legendary South African cricket team batter AB de Villiers said that England all-rounder Sam Curran has been 'overpaid for quite a few years now' in the Indian Premier League (IPL). During a Q&A session on his YouTube channel, de Villiers was asked about a player whom he thinks has been overpaid in the tournament and he mentioned the name of the England youngster. De Villiers explained that Curran is a 'wonderful player' but pointed out that he has not been exceptional for England or his IPL franchises.
Expect Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to be the busiest team of the lot at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, set to be conducted on December 19 in Dubai. Having released 12 players in the lead up to the IPL 2024 auction, KKR will look to fill up as many slots. Shreyas Iyer and the KKR management will need to make a minimum of six acquisitions to meet the minimum requirement of 18 squad players.
In a history-making move, Australia pacer Mitchell Starc was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping Rs 24.75 crores just hours after his skipper Pat Cummins had breached the Rs 20 crore mark after being brought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), to become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the auction in Dubai on Tuesday. Sam Curran, an all-around player for England, was previously the most expensive player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), having cost Punjab Kings (PBKS) INR 18.50 crore for him at the previous year's auction, as per Olympics.com.
After missing out on Australia captain Pat Cummins, who was sold for Rs 20.5 crore by SRH, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) went all in for West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph. Joseph, who came in with a base price of Rs 1 crore, was involved in a bidding war between RCB, Delhi Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Kings. RCB eventually got him for Rs 11.5 crore. Yash Dayal, who released by Gujarat Titans ahead of the auction, was also bought by the franchise for Rs 5 crore.
