PITTSBURGH — New York Jets guard Xavier Newman was carted off the field and taken to a local hospital because of a neck injury sustained Sunday night at Acrisure Stadium.
Newman was injured on an interception return in the third quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 6-foot-2, 297-pound guard was knocked off his feet by linebacker Patrick Queen, who was blocking on the return.
Newman landed on his landed on his back and lay motionless for several minutes before being strapped to a spineboard. Concerned players kneeled around Newman as he received medical attention.
Newman was transported by ambulance, and there was movement in his limbs, NBC Sports reported during the telecast. Newman is a backup, but he was in the game for Alijah Vera-Tucker, who left in the second quarter because of an ankle injury.
