Hibs are set to rival Aberdeen for the capture of Jay Idzes. The Dutch defender has been a long-term target for the Dons, who tried to get him in January but a move was put on the back burner after Jim Goodwin was sacked.
The Pittodrie club’s interest has remained, and with Barry Robson being appointed as boss on a permanent basis they can start to plan longer term and Idzes is on their shopping list for the summer.
However, Record Sport understands Lee Johnson is also keen on the 22-year-old and the Hibees plan to have him watched when current club Go Ahead Eagles take on Feyenoord at De Kuip on Sunday, May 14.
However, whether the capital club can gazump the Dons after their lengthy pursuit of the player remains to be seen. Should they finish third in the Premiership and guarantee themselves European group stage football, then that could help blow the Easter Road offer out of the water.
