The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday said that the recently-held Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction recorded an increase of 57 per cent from the previous auction's viewers. Shah took to X (Formerly Twitter) to announce that the IPL auction drew a total of 22.8 million viewers, higher than those for auctions held in the 2022 auction. The IPL auction 2024 was held in Dubai on December 19.

It was a massive heartbreak for the Indian cricket team as the Rohit Sharma-led side fell agonisingly close to lifting the Cricket World Cup 2023 trophy after losing to Australia in the final. Playing the tournament at home, India looked unstoppable as they won 10 matches on the trot. The unbeaten run included a win over every other competing side in the tournament and ahead of the summit clash, India were considered to be favourites.
