The Memphis Grizzlies do not intend to re-sign Dillon Brooks this offseason, sources confirmed to ESPN. Brooks, the longest-tenured player on the Grizzlies' roster, struggled in Memphis' postseason series loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, shooting 31.2% from the floor.
The six-year veteran also gained attention for calling Lakers star LeBron James «old» after Game 2 and adding, «I poke bears.» Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman said Sunday that he couldn't comment on Brooks' future with Memphis, but did note that the Grizzlies had to navigate «self-created distractions» during the playoffs.
Brooks, 27, told reporters Sunday that he doesn't think his comments provided extra motivation for James and that he doesn't regret making them.
Brooks also was fined $25,000 by the NBA for not making himself available to the media after all three of the Grizzlies' road losses in Los Angeles.
