It's a Napolitano day at the Giro d’Italia! Stage 6 on Thursday, May 11 sees the riders start and finish in Naples as Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) seeks to bounce back from his double crash on Wednesday.
The Belgian favourite appeared to be out of the race after hitting the deck when a dog ran into the peloton, but after spending over a minute on the tarmac he belatedly returned to the saddle.
But the drama was not over. As the race wound up for a sprint, he crashed again — crucially inside the final 3km to get the same time as winner Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck).
Ad Soudal-QuickStep doctor Toon Cruyt has said that Evenepoel is in a «lot of pain» and faces a “difficult day” on Thursday.
