Frank Rijkaard has tipped Gio van Bronckhorst to manage the Netherlands despite his Rangers struggles.. Van Bronckhorst was sacked by the Ibrox club in November after just under a year in charge, as results saw them slip too far behind Celtic for the board’s liking.

He did manage to lift the Scottish Cup last season, but another campaign without the Premiership title meant he paid the price with his job,.

He's been out of work and kept a low profile since, but compatriot and Dutch legend Rijkaard, who also managed his country as well as being van Bronckhorst’s boss during his time as a player with Barcelona, is convinced his former charge will lead Oranje at some point in the future, citing his title triumph with “ordinary” Feyenoord players.

Rijkaard said: "Yes, I think Gio will be the national coach one day. I have a warm heart for him, I'm happy to see how well he has done as a manager. "Of course, he had to leave Rangers not so long ago, but that can happen.
