Gillingham could see players leaves for non-league

Gillingham manager Neil Harris is expecting his phone to hot up again next week. While the Gills made 10 signings in the January transfer window, nobody left at the end of the window.

There’s still a chance of outgoings when the club get the chance to let players leave for non-league on Tuesday. Manager Neil Harris was asked if there was anyone close to leaving as the window closed on Tuesday. “No, not really,” he said. “I think it is early days with the group, I have had some honest conversations with some of the guys so they know where they stand. “If lads want to move on for family reasons, location or lack of game time, I am all ears, really supportive, I want players to be happy. “We have got the thought process that the non-league market opens again next Tuesday, the 7th, players can go and I am sure that is when the phone will heat up again and we will get some enquiries about players.” The Gills could look to loan out some of their youngsters like Bailey Akehurst or Joe Gobde.

Midfielder Josh Chambers has been getting plenty of games for Worthing in National South since his temporary move there. Youth striker Ronald Sithole has gone to Chatham Town on loan already, having previously been at Whitstable.

Of the more senior players, it’s likely that Jordan Green will move on after being told he has no future at the club under Harris.
