Former star warns Liverpool over pitfalls of signing Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio

Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has warned his old club about the issues of swooping for Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio. The 26-year-old has been tipped to join the Reds in a somewhat surprising move due to the fact that he will be out of contract in the summer of 2023 and can leave for nothing.

Real are looking to try and cash in now, rather than have to take a lesser fee in January. Jurgen Klopp has been linked with a move for Asensio for some time and there is space for a No.10 in the Liverpool squad after Takumi Minamino was moved on to Monaco.

However, Enrique feels Asensio could cause issues due to his high salary and need for regular first-team football.

The Spain international currently earns around £117,000 a week, a figure that eclipses some big names on Merseyside. Asensio has won LaLiga and the Champions League three times with Real, having joined from Mallorca in 2014.
