Ex-India Star Says This 'Rolls Royce' Player To Replace Sarfaraz Khan In 1st Test vs Bangladesh

India's squad for the 1st Test against Bangladesh, starting September 19, was announced last week with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant making their much-awaited returns to the side.

While Rahul played for India during the first two Test against England on home soil, Pant's last series in the whites for India, co-incidentally, was against Bangladesh in December 2022 before an unfortunate car accident accident sidlined him.

With several senior players sidelined due to various reasons, Sarfaraz Khan made his much-awaited India debut against England and was an instant hit.

The Mumbai batter scored 200 runs across five innings including three half-centuries while averaging 50 and scoring at a strike-rate of 79.36.

Sarfaraz, despite his heroics in domestic red-ball games, hasn't quite managed to cement his place in the Test playing XI. While Sarfaraz was a part of the India squad for the 2-match series against Bangladesh, he was released on both occasions -- first for the Duleep Trophy, then for the Irani Cup.
Shubman Gill continued to fine-tune his approach against spinners ahead of India's second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, beginning on Friday. During India's practice session, ahead of the 2nd Test in Green Park, Gill practiced cover drives with Rishabh Pant giving it a go with the ball and trying to bowl spin deliveries. He's highly competitive for someone who has the persona of being relaxed and always laughing and smiling. He's got that big smile,” Marsh told Star Sports.

But back in 2014, the tall pacer, who played for Rajasthan in domestic cricket, made his debut for India in England. he played just two Tests and took two wickets. While those numbers may not be great, in First-Class matches he has 472 wickets (117 matches) while in List A he has 118 wickets (79 matches). In 2016, Pankaj Singh told ESPNCricinfo that Yuvraj Singh had referred to him as "best bowler in domestic cricket" after he got him out in Duleep Trophy.

However, Pant pressed that the fire inside him allowed him to score the record-equalling sixth Test century. Pant's return to Test cricket has been nothing short of spectacular following a life-threatening car accident in December 2022. He made his much-anticipated comeback in Chennai. His 109-run innings in the second innings was filled with attacking strokes, coupled with well-timed defense, taking the Bangladesh bowlers by surprise.
