Stafford McDowall is set to make his long-awaited Scotland debut on Saturday. The centre from Dundrennan has been named in Gregor Townsend’s team to face Italy in their first game of the Famous Grouse Nations Series.
The 25-year-old has played for Scotland at age group level and been named in squads before but this will be his first senior cap.
McDowall, who plays his club rugby for Glasgow Warriors, was due to make his debut in 2021 only for the game to be cancelled due to coronavirus.
The Famous Grouse Nations Series will see Scotland play Italy, France and Georgia in the next few weeks. The games are being used as a warm-up for this year’s Rugby World Cup and if former Stewartry Shark McDowall impresses, he could earn himself a place on the plane to France.
