Celtic supremo Dermot Desmond has again pulled rank after demanding Gavin Strachan stays at Parkhead. The 44-year-old was targeted, along with John Kennedy, by Ange Postecoglou who was keen to take his trusted Hoops backroom team members to Tottenham Hotspur with him but the Greek-Assuie has failed in that bid.
Postecoglou has had to turn to Brendan Rodgers’ former No. 2 Chris Davies to fill the assistant role and Record Sport can exclusively reveal that Irish billionaire and majority Celtic shareholder Desmond has personally intervened to ensure Strachan won’t be heading to London either as he prepares to stay on for the Rodgers era, alongside Kennedy, with Desmond also playing a lead role in sealing a return for his fellow Irishman.
That has left Postecoglou having to look elsewhere for another member of staff. And we can reveal that Australian Mile Jedinak is one man he wants.
The former Crystal Palace and Aston Villa midfielder played under the Spurs gaffer with the Socceroos. The 38-year-old is currently the loan development coach under Unai Emery at Villa Park.
