Chennai Super Kings Name All 5 Retentions Two Days Before Deadline? Cryptic Post Sets Internet Ablaze

Only two days remain for the IPL 2024 retention deadline, and rumours are flying thick and strong. One team which will be under focus is five-time champions Chennai Super Kings.

There has been a lot of deliberations on who will be their No. 1 pick. The most intriguing part of their retention is whether MS Dhoni will be playing the next IPL or not.

While he can be retained as an uncapped player, since he retired from international cricket over five years ago, some have said that he should be retained as a capped players.

In the midst of this, a post by CSK on X on Tuesday evening created flutter. The caption of the post read: "The Ones You Seek is Seeking You!" Along with the post, there were several emojis of helicopter, sword, star, rocket etc.

One of the biggest names to have not been retained ahead of the IPL 2025 is KL Rahul. The star batter was the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants for the past few seasons. However, he will now join the auction pool. LSG's retained players are Nicholas Pooran (Rs 21 crore), Ravi Bishnoi (Rs 11 crore), Mayank Yadav (Rs 11 crore), Mohsin Khan (Rs 4 crore) and Ayush Badoni (Rs 4 crore). Talking about the retentions, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka gave an interesting take.  
Punjab Kings will go in with a massive auction budget of Rs 110.5 cr, having retained only two uncapped Indian players ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Star pacer Arshdeep Singh was not kept on, with the franchise choosing to keep four Right to Match (RTM) cards for the mega auction. As per the BCCI rule, all the ten franchises were asked to submit the final list of their retained players by Thursday, October 31. IPL 2024 was yet another disappointing season for PBKS as they once again failed to reach the playoffs. Ahead of the retentions, their skipper Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement while the franchise appointed Ricky Ponting as their new head coach. 
The IPL 2025 retentions are here and there were quite a few surprises in store for the fans. Three major captains - Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer - will all enter the IPL auction pool after they were not retained by Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders respectively. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, kept their core intact by keeping all four of their superstars - Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. KL Rahul's departure was confirmed as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) announced their retentions ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Instead, a whopping Rs 21 cr was awarded to West Indian batter Nicholas Pooran, who is their highest retention. Under the captaincy of KL Rahul, LSG qualified for the Playoffs in 2022 and 2023. However in 2024, they failed to reach the knockout stage. West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran has been retained as the top priority player for Rs 18 crore. The team has parted ways with KL Rahul, who will now be going under the hammer in the auctions. 
Virat Kohli was retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Alongside him, RCB retained only two more players: middle order batter Rajat Patidar and uncapped Indian fast bowler Yash Dayal. This meant that Mohammad Siraj, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell are among the big names let go by RCB. All the ten franchises were asked to submit the names of their retained players by Thursday, October 31. RCB, who played under the captaincy of batter Faf du Plessis, entered the Playoffs but lost in the Eliminator match against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024. However, their turn-around in the season became one of the major highlights as they won six matches on the trot, to enter the Playoffs. 
IPL 2025 Retentions Announcement, Live Streaming: The announcement for the retained players by the franchises will be disclosed on Thursday. With a lot of big names set to be retained and several youngsters to backed, there could be some names that could bid goodbyes to their respective franchises. Each team can retain six players, out of which maximum of five can be capped and two uncapped. This can be either via retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) option. The auction purse for the franchises has been set at Rs 120 Crore for IPL 2025. The total salary cap will now consist of auction purse, incremental performance pay and match fees.
