The new season of the Indian Premier League is here, and Chennai Super Kings will be playing the first match against Gujarat Titans.

The 2022 season was a disappointing one for the four-time champions as they finished ninth in the ten-team tournament with just eight points.

Ravindra Jadeja started the season as the captain but midway, he left his position due to the pressure of the job as well as the worrying run of form.

MS Dhoni became the skipper once again, but it was too little too late for CSK. In the new season, CSK are expected to stick to their tested opening pair of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad followed by the big-money signing Ben Stokes.

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni termed the lull period in the middle overs as the reason for his team's three-run defeat against Rajasthan Royals in an IPL match in Chennai on Wednesday. Dhoni, who scored 32 off 17 balls, couldn't hit a last ball six but felt that the fate of the match was decided between the 7th to 15th over in which Devon Conway (50 off 38 balls), Shivam Dube (8 off 9 balls) and Moeen Ali (7 off 10 balls) couldn't get going against Ravichandran Ashwin (2/25) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2/27).
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) eye top spot when they take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at the MA  Chidambaram Stadium. After losing their opening match to Gujarat Titans, CSK have been victorious in their last two outings, and hope to make it three on the trot with a win in front of their fans against RR. With star pacer Deepak Chahar and Ben Stokes out due to injuries, CSK will heavily rely on their spinners. Ravindra Jadeja was CSK standout performer with the ball in their last match as he turned the game on its head. Ahead of the game against RR, here's what we think could be CSK's playing XI:
England all-rounder Moeen Ali believes compatriot Ben Stokes to be an obvious candidate for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captaincy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) once the current skipper MS Dhoni decides to call it quits. CSK splurged big money on Stokes in the IPL 2023 auction last year in December, but his performance has been underwhelming in two games so far, having scored 15 runs in two games and having bowled only one over. England's Test team has transformed under Stokes' leadership within nearly a year, winning 10 out of 12 matches under him. Moeen opines that Stokes' success with England makes him an easy choice to succeed Dhoni as a skipper, but feels that the change might not be imminent.
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma looked visibly shattered after his team suffered a defeat against Chennai Super Kings in an IPL 2023 match at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. It was MI's second successive defeat of the season, having lost their first game of the season against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Chasing a target of 157, CSK achieved their goal with seven wickets and 11 balls to spare. As Ambati Rayudu, who was brought in as an impact player, hit the winning boundary, Rohit was caught by the cameras hiding his face with his cap.
Veteran Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ajinkya Rahan took fans' breath away with his whirlwind knock against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match on Saturday. Scoring a 19-ball half-century, Rahane reached the 50-run mark in the fastest time this season yet. However, Rahane wasn't originally in the franchise's plans to feature in the match. He only got to know about his place in the team ahead of the toss as Moeen Ali was unwell.
Ajinkya Rahane smashed the fastest half-century of IPL 2023 - off just 19 balls - and Ruturaj Gaikwad struck an unbeaten 40 to power Chennai Super Kings to a seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. An ordinary Mumbai Indians succumbed to their second consecutive defeat in as many matches while CSK recorded their second win on the trot, moving to the fourth spot in the points table while the five-time winners remained at eighth.
