"Too Many Dot Balls In...": MS Dhoni Underlines Where CSK Fell Short vs RR

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni termed the lull period in the middle overs as the reason for his team's three-run defeat against Rajasthan Royals in an IPL match in Chennai on Wednesday.

Dhoni, who scored 32 off 17 balls, couldn't hit a last ball six but felt that the fate of the match was decided between the 7th to 15th over in which Devon Conway (50 off 38 balls), Shivam Dube (8 off 9 balls) and Moeen Ali (7 off 10 balls) couldn't get going against Ravichandran Ashwin (2/25) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2/27). "There was not a lot in it for spinners, but in the middle period, there were too many dot balls.

If the (ball) is stopping and turning off the surface, then it is fine. But that was not the case here," Dhoni said at the post match presentation ceremony. "We (him and Ravindra Jadeja) were the last batting pair, early in the tournament, you can't go hard, keeping the NRR in mind as there were too many overs to go.

We kept it slightly late in the middle overs. We could have taken more singles. And we couldn't go hard immediately," the former India captain said.

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was left ruing the four-wicket defeat to Punjab Kings in their own den, saying the bowlers need to be more aware of the situation and also indicated that the execution was probably "bad". CSK had a good chance of victory after posting 200 for four at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, thanks chiefly to another Devon Conway special of unbeaten 92, but the Shikhar Dhawan-led side hit the winning runs off the last ball to silence the yellow brigade on Sunday. "We lost it in a couple of overs in the middle. You need to be aware what you need to bowl and be clear because the batters will be going for it (big hits). (Matheesha) Pathirana bowled well but other than that, we need to see if the plans were wrong or the execution was bad," said Dhoni.
Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni feels his side lost the IPL match in Japipur against hosts Rajasthan Royals in the first six overs as the visitors gave away too many runs during that period. That was one of the first of the many marvelous knocks that Dhoni's played during chase.

A slower ball from Tushar Deshpande hit Wiese on the pad, but umpire was unconvinced with the appeal. Dhoni decided to go upstairs and the reviews revealed that the ball would have hit the stumps.
