Traffic has been stopped on the M6 near Greater Manchester following a 'serious incident'. An air ambulance has been called out to the motorway near Warrington this morning (April 8).
It follows an incident on the southbound carriageway between junctions 22 at Winwick and 21A for the M62. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area if possible.
A spokesperson for National Highways North West said: "Traffic is currently being HELD on the M6 southbound between J22 - J21A near Houghton Green due to a serious incident.
Emergency services including an air ambulance are en-route. There is queueing traffic approaching the scene, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system.
