All traffic has been stopped on a section of the M62 this afternoon as police respond to an incident. Drivers travelling westbound have been halted between junction 12 for the M60 and junction 11 for Birchwood due to what is being described as a 'collision'.
Traffic officers are said to be on scene remove vehicles from the carriageway. No further details about the nature of the incident have been released at this stage. Drivers are being warned that traffic is already queuing as far back as the Junction 15 of the M60 anticlockwise. Highways England said on Twitter: "Traffic has been STOPPED on the #M62 westbound in #GreaterManchester between J12 (#M60) and J11 (#Birchwood) due to a collision.
Our Traffic Officers are on scene and working to move vehicles from the carriageway. Queuing traffic is already back to the #M60 anti-clock at J15." According to traffic site, INRIX: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M62 Westbound after J12 M60 J12 (Eccles Interchange)."
