A stretch of the M56 is fully shut this afternoon after a serious crash between a car and a lorry. The eastbound carriageway is closed between junction nine for the M6 and Lymm Interchange and junction seven for Bowdon.
According to National Highways, emergency services including police, fire and paramedics are on the scene. Traffic is heavy in the area, with queues building up to the closure.
A diversion route has been put in place. The car struck the central reservation and nearside barrier. "North West Motorway Police Group, Cheshire Fire & Rescue Services, North West Ambulance Services and National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene."
