Padahal, wakil Jerman itu unggul dua gol lebih dulu. Donyell Malen membuat gol untuk Dortmund pada menit ke-30. Empat menit berselang, Jamie Gittens menggandakan keunggulan Dortmund.

Madrid mengamuk dalam 30 menit terakhir laga. Antonio Ruediger mencetak gol pada menit ke-60. Empat gol Madrid ke gawang Dortmund lainnya di sisa pertandingan tercatat atas nama Vinicius Junior (3 gol) dan Lucas Vazquez.
