The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suspended men's team head coach Chandika Hathurusingha due to inappropriate conduct by him during last year's ODI World Cup in India.

Hathurusingha, the former Sri Lanka all-rounder under whom Bangladesh recently endured a forgettable tour of India where they were whitewashed in both the Test and T20I series, will be sacked and replaced by former West Indies player Phil Simmons.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Simmons, who was also an all-rounder and opened the batting for the West Indies in the early and mid 1990s, will be in charge of the Bangladesh team until next year's ICC Champions Trophy. "Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has been suspended following allegations he slapped a player at last year's ODI World Cup.

His contract will be terminated after 48 hours of suspension, with Phil Simmons to take over until next year's Champions Trophy," the website said.

From 2021 to 2023, he served as a fielding coach with Sunrisers Hyderabad and as a batting coach in successive seasons. Indian players are the best in the world and can bat well in any conditions, said Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed while conceding that batting frailties have let down the visitors in the T20I series, which the hosts lead 2-0 with one match left to play. Bangladesh face a potential series whitewash after losing the second T20I by 86 runs, having lost the first match by 7 wickets. "(There is) no doubt that they are (the) best in the world, not only in their (home) conditions but all over the world. They are more experienced and better players than us," Taskin told the media on Wednesday.
Indian cricket team all-rounder Hardik Pandya impressed with both bat and ball as the Rohit Sharma-led side beat Bangladesh in the first T20I encounter in Gwalior on Sunday. Hardik slammed an unbeaten 39 off just 16 deliveries and recorded bowling figures of 1/26 to emerge as the top performer for the Indian cricket team. Hardik's show earned him a lot of praise from both fans and experts but former India fast bowler RP Singh believes that Bangladesh are not the right opponents to gauge his progress.
Chasing a mediocre target of 128 runs against Bangladesh in the first T20I on Sunday, India openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson looked to give the team a fine start. Just as the duo looked to have settled in, Abhishek was run out for 16 runs off 7 balls. The disappointment at losing the wicket in such a fashion was visible on the batter's face. Though India still went on to win the match by a comprehensive margin, Abhishek didn't manage to evade criticism.
Another explosive pacer was added to India's ranks as Mayank Yadav made his debut in the first T20I against Bangladesh. The pacer, known to bowl over 150 kmph regularly, impressed one and all with his performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Making his debut for India on Sunday, Mayank picked up a wicket, opening his international account. However, a comment from Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto suggests that the touring team isn't too bothered about facing the express pacer.
