Leinster prop Michael Ala'alatoa has been handed a three-week suspension following his red card in last Saturday's Heineken Champions Cup final. The Samoa international was sent off after a dangerous clearout on La Rochelle's Georges Henri Colombe, which led to the hooker being carted off on the 78th minute.Ala'alatoa appeared before an independent disciplinary hearing on Tuesday, where the committee upheld the red card decision, finding that Ala'alatoa had charged into the ruck in contravention of Law 9.20(a).The committee determined the offence was at the mid-range of World Rugby's sanctions and six weeks was selected as the appropriate entry point. As the player has a clear disciplinary record and due to his acceptance of the red card, it was decided to grant him the full 50% mitigation and the committee therefore reduced the sanction by three weeks before imposing a three-week suspension.Ala'alatoa is suspended for Samoa’s fixtures against Japan on 22 July, against Fiji on 29 July and against Tonga on 5 August. However, the Australia-born prop will be eligible for the last of those games against Tonga if he completes the World Rugby coaching intervention programme.
