Gavin Gallagher admits Airdrie were bullied out of the SPFL Trust Trophy by East Kilbride and says they have no excuses. Holders Airdrie were sent spinning out of the competition at the first time of asking as East Kilbride dominated from start to finish, and eventually triumphed 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out.
Gallagher netted a late leveller for the hosts, his top corner rocket cancelling out ex-Airdrie star Jordan McGregor’s first half opener.
But the seething midfielder admits Airdrie simply weren’t good enough and blasted: “East Kilbride were by far the better team, and it shouldn’t have taken us going 1-0 down to start playing. “We could have nicked it at the end, but we got what we deserved. “I don’t know if East Kilbride wanted it more, but I thought they were the better team. “They imposed their style when we’re at home and we’re meant to be doing that to other teams. “Confidence is low, but we need to get together in there. “Everybody’s obviously down, we’re the holders of the cup competition, and it was all about getting into the next round and that didn’t happen. “What we’re in just now, not picking up three points, everything seems like doom and gloom, but once we get one win we’ll start to kick on. “Fans were booing and we understand their frustrations.
It’s obviously going to happen when we don’t win. We’re putting performances on for the fans, they pay to come every single week, but unfortunately we couldn’t get the win.” Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onX via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
