AFCON Qualifiers: Libya celebrates Osimhen’s absence

Libya are celebrating the absence of Victor Osimhen who will miss this month’s Group D AFCON 2025 qualifiers due to injury.Osimhen got injured in Galatasaray’s league game against Kasimpasa and had to be substituted at halftime.According to a statement by Galatasaray, Osimhen is expected to return after the international break.Libya News 24, in its report on Friday, stated that Osimhen’s absence could favour the Mediterranean Knights.“Osimhen’s absence could represent a golden opportunity to turn the balance of power in our favor.”The news outlet also commented on the absence of Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah who is also out due to injury.“In addition to Osimhen’s injury, Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah will also miss the two Libya matches due to injury.

Ndah, who is considered one of the pillars of the Nigerian national team’s defence, played a decisive role in the recent match against Benin, as he helped keep his team’s goal clean.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially delisted the Group D second-leg match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights, which was scheduled for Tuesday in Benghazi.
The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) said Nigeria were to blame for the postponement of Tuesday's scheduled Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Benghazi after the visitors refused to play the match citing mistreatment on arrival in the country.
