6 Feyenoord vs Celtic VAR calls in focus from IFAB rule that halted Lagerbielke let off to no Holm comfort

It was a disappointing night for Celtic as they opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Feyenoord. But the game wasn't short of talking points as Brendan Rodgers watched Gustaf Lagerbielke and Odin Thiago Holm see red inside the De Kuip cauldron, as well as Joe Hart saving a penalty.

There was also two narrow escapes for the Hoops with the Dutch champions left disappointed that they didn't win by a more convincing margin with two more goals ruled out for offside.

The Rotterdam outfit has to settle for goals from Calvin Stengs and Alireza Jahanbakhsh rather than rack up a more convincing scoreline - and with Lazio and Atletico Madrid drawing in the other group game Celtic fans will be confident of putting this trip to the Netherlands behind them and getting off the point mark soon.

And while it didn't quite reach the nightmare scenario it could have been much worse had VAR not intervened. Referee Irfan Peljto had a busy evening on the park, while Ivan Bebek wasn't getting any rest in the VAR room. Record Sport takes a look at the big calls in the Scottish champions Group E opener.
