£4.75m allocated to make walking and cycling safer on one of the main routes into Manchester

Town hall bosses in Trafford have accepted £4.75m of funding to deliver a safer ‘active travel scheme’ on one of the main arterial routes through the borough in and out of Manchester.

Cash for the Talbot Road scheme is from the Mayor's Challenge Fund. The decision by Trafford council will enable the work for the scheme to begin soon.

It will deliver three upgraded ‘cyclops’ junctions at the junction of Talbot Road and White City Way, Great Stone Road and the A56/Chester Road, providing priority to people walking, wheeling or cycling along the route ‘in a seamless journey’. “The scheme is of key strategic importance in Trafford and forms a major component of the planned active travel infrastructure, which will provide a central spine enhancing connectivity between Trafford’s Civic Quarter, key development sites and Manchester city centre,” background papers say.
