Celtic and Rangers away fan lockout back ON as Ibrox renovations spark fresh fallout with Parkhead briefs pulled

Celtic have told Rangers they won't be getting an away allocation for the upcoming derby on September 2 - and the lockout could continue into the new year.

The two Glasgow giants appeared to have ended the longstanding dispute over away supporters after it emerged towards the end of last season that travelling fans would be permitted at derbies from the 2024/25 season after SPFL intervention. Both clubs had banned away fans at derbies due to 'safety concerns,' but in March it was announced that a five per cent allocation would be available from this season - with 2,500 visiting fans allowed at Ibrox and 3,000 at Celtic Park.

But Rangers' temporary move to Hampden appears to have thrown a spanner in the works. Celtic had spent a six-figure fee to get Parkhead ready for the return of Rangers fans for the upcoming derby. But the Hoops are unconvinced their rivals had done the same. And they feel they can't guarantee their stadium will be ready to house visiting fans for the next scheduled derby, due to take place at Ibrox on January 2.

It's believed the clubs have had another fall-out, with Celtic writing to Rangers to confirm the withdrawal of their away briefs. That comes after talks with police and Glasgow City council chiefs. It remains to be seen if their rivals will respond in kind.
