When are the bank holidays around the King's coronation?

This May, Brits get an extra bank holiday for the King's coronation.

There are usually only two bank holidays in May. The first Monday in May, known as May Day, falls on Monday May 1, while the second is the spring bank holiday, which takes place on Monday 29 May.

The extra bank holiday for the coronation will actually fall after the ceremony itself. The coronation, which will take place at Westminster Abbey, and will also see Camilla crowned as Queen Consort, takes place on Saturday, May 6.

Tens of thousands of street parties are expected to be staged during the weekend, with people urged to come together across the nation for the Coronation Big Lunch on Sunday May 7. On the same day, a line-up of global music icons will perform a special concert at Windsor Castle, though the bill has yet to be announced.

Monday, May 8 will be a bank holiday - to make up for the coronation taking place on the weekend. This means Brits will have three, three day weekends to enjoy in May.

After May's bank holidays, people in England, Wales and Scotland will have to wait until August for the next one, which falls on Monday August 28. Northern Ireland has a bank holiday in before then, on Wednesday 12 July for Battle of the Boyne (Orangemen’s Day).

The final few bank holidays then take place at the end of the year, for Christmas and Boxing Day.
