Martinez's condition 'not life-threatening' after ex-Bristol Rovers player collapsed during game

Former Bristol Rovers player Pablo Martinez has been "stabilised" after he collapsed while playing for Chippenham Town on Saturday.

Chippenham's National League South game against Chelmsford City at Hardenhuish Park was abandoned after 27 minutes when 21-year-old Martinez collapsed in the centre circle. Half an hour later, Chippenham confirmed he had been "stabilised and is breathing" and the player was taken to a Bristol hospital.

This evening, Chippenham confirmed Martinez's condition is "not life-threatening".

A spokesman said: "Supporters who attended today’s home game with Chelmsford City, will be aware of an on-field incident concerning Pablo Martinez, resulting in his transfer to hospital in Bristol.

"We can advise that Pablo’s condition is not life-threatening and we will update the website as soon as we are able to."

Martinez joined Rovers as a development squad player in 2020 after being released by West Bromwich Albion. He would go on to make 12 appearances for the Gas across two seasons in defence and midfield, with loan spells at Oxford City and Gloucester City.

He was released by Rovers after their promotion to League One in May and he joined the Bluebirds in July.
