SPFL reveals highest ever turnover figure as club payments up £2m

The SPFL have announced the highest every turnover figure in the league's history - with fee payments to clubs also up £2million.

The league body released a statement earlier today to reveal that turnover has grown to £44.3million - a rise of £2.4m from last year's previous record high of £41.9m. It represents a 6 per cent increase with that jump up primarily driven by the new Sky Sports TV deal, as well as revenue growth from the other domestic and overseas broadcasting agreements struck by league chiefs.

Clubs will also see a benefit with fee payments up by £2m to £33.7m - another 6 per cent increase, with the total fees shelled out to clubs now sitting at £37.9m, up from the £35.8m total that was distributed last campaign. Celtic, Rangers, Motherwell and Aberdeen have also had net gate receipts of £2.1m distributed to them for participating in the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals and final at Hampden.

Given the challenging market and economic conditions right now, these encouraging results reinforce the huge popularity of Scottish football, as well as the level of interest this generates with our broadcasters and our increasing roster of partners.
