Zulina Munoz says she can beat 'Canelo of women's boxing' Amanda Serrano

Former WBC world champion Zulina Muñoz is set to face fellow Mexican Yamileth Mercado next month in a fight for the super bantamweight title.

The bout will be a welcome opportunity for Muñoz to bounce back from her most recent match, which ended in a loss to Denmark’s Dina Thorslund.

The defeat ended Muñoz’s four-match unbeaten streak and now the Mexican is turning her attention to Mercado and beyond, where huge excitement lies in the form of a potential meeting with Amanda Serrano.

If Muñoz is successful in overthrowing WBC super bantamweight champion Mercado, she will be hoping for a match against Serrano, who is scheduled to face Katie Taylor for the undisputed lightweight championship on April 30th.

The upcoming Taylor vs Serrano match has already generated huge hype and has been dubbed the biggest women’s fight of all time.

The match will be held at Madison Square Garden and Taylor’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, of Matchroom Boxing, is hoping it will feature on the main stage in the 20,000 capacity arena, as opposed to the much smaller 7,000 theatre in the complex.

The unbeaten Bray Bomber will confident in retaining her title once again, but an in-form Serrano could cause a huge upset in New York.

Muñoz has been watching the Puerto Rican closely and would love to take her on following her fight with Mercado.

“Who says I can’t fight her [Serrano] and beat her?” the Mexican said in an interview with DAZN. “Right now, Amanda is ‘La [the] Canelo’ of women’s boxing, everyone wants to fight her because they know there will be a good show, a good stage and most importantly, a good purse.”
