Mikaela Mayer wants to face the winner of Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano

Mikaela Mayer says it’s only ‘natural’ that she will eventually end up facing either Katie Taylor or Amanda Serrano at some point.

Fellow world champions Taylor and Serrano will face each other in a historic night for women’s boxing on April 30 at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York – the first of its kind to headline a show at MSG.

Taylor will put her undisputed lightweight world titles on the line against the Puerto Rican, which her promoter Eddie Hearn has described as the ‘biggest women’s fight of all time’.

Mayer, meanwhile, takes on fellow American Jennifer Han in California on Saturday.

The 31-year-old made her last appearance in the ring in November when she defeated Maiva Hamadouche in Las Vegas to unify the super-featherweight division.

Standing 5ft 9in, Mayer makes the 130lb weight limit rather comfortably, but admits it won’t be long before she moves up to 135lbs.

“Yeah, definitely. I absolutely want the winner of that fight,” Mayer told GiveMeSport.

“I’m at that point now where I feel like I’ve been moved really, really well by Top Rank.

“I’ve had great fights, the right fights, to gain all the experience that I need.

“I’ve faced many a different style, and I showed that in my last fight against Hamadouche, when I went up against a style that nobody thought I could hang with.

“So I’ve shown that I’m well-rounded and I’m ready for the big fights, and so absolutely the winner of Serrano and Taylor, you’re right, I feel like it’s a natural progression.

“I mean, coming up from 130, it’s not like I’m a small 130, I need to move up anyway.

“It’s not like we’re in totally different weight classes, I’m a huge 130, I’m bigger than Serrano and Taylor.”
