Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma was heavily linked with a move away from the Amex during the January transfer window, with Aston Villa and Manchester United said to be interested.

Reports claim that Villa saw a £25million bid for Bissouma rejected a few weeks ago and were pondering a late deadline day swoop for the Mali international.

Brighton apparently stood firm on their £50million valuation for Bissouma, which subsequently put off suitors.

He has 18 months left on his current contract and will enter the final 12 months of his deal at the end of the season, before no doubt in the summer commanding interest from the likes of Villa, Man Utd and Arsenal once more.

Bissouma is a player who Villa have tracked since the summer, according to reports.

Back in September, after his future at Brighton was first cast into doubt in the summer of 2021, he admitted that is was his dream to play for a Champions League team.

"I didn’t go this summer, maybe it's because it’s not my time to go," Bissouma said after he ended up staying on the south coast before the start of the 2021/22 campaign.

"When my time will come, it’s my time, but I’m happy in Brighton, I’m enjoying playing football.

"My dream is like every player, I want to play in the Champions League, I want to be champions. I want to compare myself on the top level, not just with other players."
