WWE Wrestler mocks Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney at live event

Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney was left open to a cheeky jab about his age by wrestling superstar Drew McIntyre during a recent WWE live show.

The football veteran spent Friday (April 19) immersed in the world of wrestling at London's O2 Arena. Rooney accompanied his sons to watch an enthralling night of action-packed matches featuring WWE stars like Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes and former Women's Champion Natalya.

The massive event drew over 16,000 spectators, which included not only Rooney but also boxing heavy-hitter Anthony Joshua. Scottish WWE veteran and previous champion McIntyre, noted for his gallant performances, addressed the crowd with reverence towards Rooney and his illustrious sporting career.

"We're two British icons, I'm only British WWE champion three times" McIntyre announced. However, the tribute quickly shifted as the wrestler launched a witty comment at Rooney stating: "He's smashed football but aren't we the same age? What happened to you? ".

McIntyre's quip resonated with the audience, leading to a sea of laughter, even managing to draw a grin from Rooney himself, despite the playful mockery. It seems the former Red Devil is no stranger to the wrestling scene having previously attended a WWE event in Manchester back in 2015.

Wade Barrett had a go at Wayne Rooney, who was ringside with his son, taunting: "In this ring are two men who can be easily be described as championship material. Which is, of course, is more than can be said of Wayne Rooney and Manchester United.", reports the Daily Star.
