'Change needed' - Wayne Rooney sends Sir Jim Ratcliffe new Man United warning ahead of big summer

Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney believes Erik ten Hag is not the only person needing to prove a point to Sir Jim Ratcliffe between now and the end of the season.

The Reds' campaign is drawing to an end and it is threatening to culminate in a whimper. Before the clash with Arsenal, United sat eighth in the Premier League and look unlikely to finish in the European qualification spots.

Ten Hag's team do have a second chance to finish in the Europa League though. If they manage to beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final, they will automatically qualify for the secondary European competition.

However, ahead of the last fortnight of United's season, Rooney insisted that everyone associated with the club is on notice ahead of Ratcliffe's first summer in charge. He told beINSPORTS: "There is changes needed at the club and whether that's Ten Hag or not, I am not sure.

"I would personally like to see him there next season and have an opportunity to rebuild but we know how football is. It wouldn't surprise me if they changed the manager as well but I think we will see a lot of changes throughout the club."

Ahead of kick-off, Rooney then added on Sky Sports: "I think they all are [fighting for their futures].

"Managers, players, coaches, recruitment. The whole club.

"This end of the season they have some difficult games coming up and then they have the FA Cup final. For me, as a player, you have to show you work and that you want to play for this football club.

"That has to start from today, you can’t just turn it on for the FA Cup final. It has to start from today."
